Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Chef Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Tongs
  • Airtight Container

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs CHICKEN THIGHS
  • 1/2 cup SOY SAUCE
  • 1/2 cup BROWN SUGAR
  • 1/4 cup KETCHUP
  • 1 tbsp FRESH GINGER
  • 3 cloves GARLIC CLOVES
  • 2 tbsp VEGETABLE OIL
  • 2 stalks GREEN ONIONS
  • 1 tsp SESAME SEEDS

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Cut your chicken into bite-sized pieces. Make sure the pieces are even. This helps them cook at the same speed. Set the chicken aside for a moment.

Step 2:

  • Get your medium-sized mixing bowl. Pour in the soy sauce and ketchup. Add the brown sugar and minced garlic. Grate the fresh ginger into the bowl.

Step 3:

  • Whisk the sauce ingredients together well. The sugar should be mostly dissolved. This ensures a smooth and sweet glaze. Put the sauce aside for later use.

Step 4:

  • Place your skillet on the stove. Turn the heat to medium-high. Add the vegetable oil to the pan. Let the oil get hot for one minute.

Step 5:

  • Add the chicken pieces to the skillet. Do not crowd the pan too much. Sear the meat until it is brown. This should take about five to seven minutes.

Step 6:

  • Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken. Stir the meat to coat it well. Lower the heat to a medium setting. Let the sauce come to a simmer.

Step 7:

  • Cook the mixture for ten more minutes. The sauce will start to get thick. It should look very shiny and dark. Stir it occasionally to prevent burning.

Step 8:

  • Check the internal temperature of the chicken. It should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Once done, remove the pan from the heat. Let it rest for two minutes.
