Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Rolling Pin
  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Small Saucepan
  • Plastic Wrap

Ingredients

  • 1 package ACTIVE DRY YEAST
  • 1/2 cup WARM WATER
  • 1/3 cup GRANULATED SUGAR
  • 1/2 cup MELTED BUTTER
  • 1/2 cup WARM MILK
  • 1 large EGG
  • 4 cups ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
  • 1 tsp SALT
  • 1 cup BROWN SUGAR
  • 2 tbsp GROUND CINNAMON
  • 8 oz CREAM CHEESE
  • 1/2 cup SOFTENED BUTTER
  • 1 1/2 cups POWDERED SUGAR
  • 1 tsp VANILLA EXTRACT

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Let it sit for five minutes until it bubbles.

Step 2:

  • Mix the milk, sugar, and melted butter together. Add the whisked egg to the liquid mixture.

Step 3:

  • Add two cups of flour to the bowl. Stir it well until the mixture is very smooth.

Step 4:

  • Add the rest of the flour slowly. Knead the dough on a floured surface for five minutes.

Step 5:

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover it and let it rise for one hour.

Step 6:

  • Roll the dough into a large, flat rectangle. Spread more melted butter all over the top.

Step 7:

  • Mix the cinnamon and brown sugar together. Sprinkle this mix evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 8:

  • Roll the dough up tightly into a long log. Cut the log into twelve even, thick pieces.

Step 9:

  • Place the rolls into your greased baking dish. Let them rise again for about thirty minutes.

Step 10:

  • Bake at 350 degrees for twenty-five minutes. They should look light golden brown on top.

Step 11:

  • Whisk the cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. Spread this icing over the warm rolls immediately.

Notes

  • Use a piece of dental floss to cut dough.
  • Make sure your yeast is fresh and not old.
  • Don't over-mix the dough or it gets tough.
  • Let the rolls cool slightly before icing them.
  • You can add pecans for a nice crunchy texture.
  • Use room temperature eggs for a smoother dough.
  • Store the cinnamon in a cool, dark place.
  • Grease your hands to handle the sticky dough.
