Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Rolling Pin
  • Sharp Knife
  • Baking Pans
  • Small Bowl
  • Pastry Brush

Ingredients

  • 1 quart WHOLE MILK
  • 1 cup CANOLA OIL
  • 1 cup WHITE SUGAR
  • 2 pkts ACTIVE DRY YEAST
  • 9 cups ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR
  • 1 tsp BAKING POWDER
  • 1 tsp BAKING SODA
  • 1 tbsp SALT
  • 2 cups MELTED BUTTER
  • 2 cups EXTRA SUGAR
  • 3 tbsp GROUND CINNAMON
  • 2 lbs POWDERED SUGAR
  • 0.5 cup STRONG COFFEE
  • 2 tbsp VANILLA EXTRACT

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Mix the milk and oil in the pot. Add the sugar to the liquid now. Stir them together over medium heat today. Do not let the milk boil yet.

Step 2:

  • Turn off the heat when it is warm. Let the mixture cool down a bit. It should feel warm, not hot. Hot milk will kill your yeast.

Step 3:

  • Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk. Let it sit for one minute now. The yeast will start to look foamy. This means the yeast is alive.

Step 4:

  • Add eight cups of flour to the pot. Stir the flour with your wooden spoon. The dough will look very sticky now. Cover the pot with a clean lid.

Step 5:

  • Let the dough rise for one hour. Put it in a warm, dark place. The dough will double in its size. This is a very important step.

Step 6:

  • Add the rest of the flour now. Add the baking powder and soda too. Sprinkle the salt over the dough. Stir everything until it is very smooth.

Step 7:

  • Roll the dough out on the table. Make a large, thin rectangle shape. Use your rolling pin for this task. Keep the thickness even all over.

Step 8:

  • Pour the melted butter over the dough. Spread it to every single edge. Use your pastry brush for this part. The butter holds the yummy filling.

Step 9:

  • Sprinkle the sugar over the butter now. Use a lot of cinnamon as well. Be generous with these two ingredients. This creates the dark, sweet swirls.

Step 10:

  • Roll the dough up very tightly now. Start from the long side farthest away. Keep the roll firm and neat. You will have one long log.

Step 11:

  • Cut the log into small, round slices. Each slice should be one inch thick. Place them into your greased baking pans. Do not crowd them too much.

Step 12:

  • Let the rolls rise one more time. Wait for twenty or thirty minutes. They will puff up and touch. This makes them extra fluffy later.

Step 13:

  • Bake the rolls in a hot oven. Keep them in for fifteen minutes. They should look light golden brown. Do not overcook these soft rolls.

Step 14:

  • Mix the frosting ingredients in a bowl. Whisk until the icing is very smooth. Pour it over the warm rolls now. The icing will soak into them.
